Τιμόμετρο price index

How prices moved overall. Each product is compared with itself, at the same supermarket, from one day to the next. The number therefore shows what happened to prices, not which products came and went in the meantime.

What changed this week

We compare each product's cheapest price today with its cheapest price a week ago, and show only products sold by at least three chains, so one shop's promotion is not mistaken for a market move.

Which day each chain raises prices

How much the average price rises or falls from one day to the next, split by day of the week. Red is a rise, green a fall. Each chain changes its price list on its own day, so shopping a little earlier catches the old prices.

The pattern is not down to how we collect the data: we pull prices equally every day, and if collection were to blame every chain would peak on the same day instead of each on its own.

Which chain got dearer and which got cheaper

How much each chain's own prices changed, measured against where that chain started. This does not say who is cheap: a cheap chain can be rising while an expensive one falls.

100 is the market average. Below 100 means cheaper than the competition, above 100 means dearer. Only products carried by at least two chains are counted, and the index updates daily.
